On 18 March, Volkswagen has officially announced a new project in Poland. The company will invest about PLN 3.4 billion and employ more than 2,300 people in the newest VW van factory in Września, in Wielkopolska province that will operate under the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone.

Several locations in Poland were taken under consideration by Volkswagen Group for the newest WV investment. Finally, the company chose Września, due to many advantages of this area. The investment plot is located 4 km from A2 motorway and 60 km from Poznan - Ławica Airport. Moreover, the whole area will be transformed into the "Września Economic Activity Zone". “Volkswagen has trusted the Poles once again”, said Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Piechociński during the ceremony of announcing the investment.

In the close neighbourhood of VW factory, smaller plants with necessary infrastructure, a ringroad, car parks and fire brigade's facilities will be built. In addition, the company will create a special training centre for employees to raised their qualifications and for local students to prepare them to take up employment in the company.

The start of construction works of the new factory in Września is planned for the autumn this year. The production of VW van vehicles should begin in 2016. The project will cost an impressive value of PLN 3.4 billion (about €800 m). More than 2,300 people will be hired there.

Września is a town in Wielkopolska province inhabited by less than 30,000 people. The unemployment rate in the area reaches 16%. The new Volkswagen factory will certainly contribute to a significant improvement in the employment. “The investment is a great opportunity not only for Września, but also for the entire region. It is said that every new job in the automotive industry, generates another 4 new jobs in related fields” - argues Barbara Kaśnikowska, WSEZ "INVEST - PARK" president.

Volkswagen's investment project has been supported by PAIiIZ. The Agency’s president Sławomir Majman and representatives of the Foreign Investment Department in PAIiIZ took part in the VW ceremony.
